Newcastle Civic Centre 40th Anniversary Display

Newcastle City Council   |   Country: United Kingdom   |   Year: 2008

On 14 November 1968, Newcastle upon Tyne’s Civic Centre was officially opened by King Olav V of Norway.  The revolutionary building was hailed as a wonder of the architectural world and praised for the quality of its design.

This temporary exhibit commemorated the 40th anniversary of the inauguration, showcasing the rich history behind this famous Newcastle landmark, and celebrated the visit of His Majesty King Harold V of Norway to the Civic Centre where he was presented with the Honorary Freedom of city, the same honour awarded to his father, King Olav, in 1968.
